Lately I've been asked a lot about my scar

or maybe I've just been noticing it more than usual?

one or the other.

Well all you lucky blog readers here's the story for you...in case you don't know?

I may have told you some other story about my shoulder..

but Im here to put out

THE TRUTH!!!

Me and Dallas Lyman like to make up all sorts of stories about it..

I was surfing and got attacked by a shark

I was just a baby and my family was

camping and a bear attacked our tent and dragged me out into a fire!

It's a sunburn..

a rare form of skin cancer

I'll just say.."WHAT!? what is that?! what the heck!?"

It's a birth mark

I dunno...it showed up last night and its starting to hurt REALLY bad...

i tell people ALL sorts of stuff..(: sooo

if one of those stories has been told to you I kinda apologize

but here is the TRUTH.

I was just a WEEEEE little lass at the

wee age of 2.

it was Sunday May 5

My mother was in the kitchen cooking dinner

my siblings: outside playing

my father: down stairs watching TV

me: helping my mom cook

My mom was boiling some water for broccoli...or something?

she went downstairs to ask my dad a question

I wanted to climb onto the counter

I grabbed the pot handle w/boiling water to try and get up

and i spilled it all over me

well not all over me just the left

side of my body

my shoulder

back

upper arm

chest

under my chin

right knee

and behind my left ear

so i stood at the top of the stairs and

SCREAMED BLOODY MURDER

my parents came to my rescure

cause thats what good parents do

my dad scooped me up in his arms and ran me to the shower

and stood in freezing cold water with me

while i...hated life.

we then went to the ER

where they dumped

FREEZING WATER

on me for an hour

ok good news readers i found the paper my mom typed telling

the whole story! so i will write what she wrote

taking up where i left off ^^

"she was scared, in pain, and very cold. they put a special medicated cream on her called Silvadine cream, it looks like frosting, then they started to add non-stick pads and gauze and wrapped her all up. they had given her a shot of Demerol and she was pretty drowsy, but still in pain so it was hard for her to sleep. the first night was pretty rough on her but we were amazed at how well she handled it. the next day we took her back to remove and change the bandages and there were several more blisters so Dr. Aoki said he would have to peel the dead skin. this was extremely painful, it took 3 of us to hold her while the Dr. did this. finally it was done and she was feeling much better when she was all bandaged up again. on wednesday they had to do a little more peeling but it was not quite as bad, they told us to bring her again on monday but i didnt want her to go so long without changing the bandages because they were sticking a little so we took her to Dr. Carn on saturday he said she looked pretty good but he wanted us to take her to a plastic surgeon we saw Dr. Hirsche on wednesday may 15 he said she had very deep 2nd degree burns and would need skin grafts. he wanted to bandages changed 2 times per day. this made such a difference in the healing process we could see visible changes each day. daddy is her favorite doctor he changes her bandages and washes her hair in the sink she doesnt like it much but she knows daddy loves her and will be careful putting the "frosting" on is her favorite part, and she likes to help open the packages of bandages (HOLD UP i just had a flash back of opening those packages...wow that was really cool) we got a dressing change on tape for her to look at when she is older. hopefully that will be about the only way she can remember the experience. it will be 2-3 weeks till Dr. Hirsche is ready to do the surgery she needs to heal up more before they can do that he said that if he had seen her within the fist 24 hours he would have done the skin graph immediately that way things could be healing up all at once. he said burns are very hard to diagnose and the Dr.'s at the hospital didn't realize how deep the burns actually were. he says she will heal up really good, however there will be some scarring but she is very young and the scares will most likely fade with time. we do have to keep her out of the sun this summer and next and keep sunscreen on her to prevent more damage. in the weeks that follow i will update this info and keep a record of what is said and done.

we have a lot of help from our family and neighbors. they have all been so good to help us. Dr. Hirsche did the skin graft surgery on tuesday may 28 we had to be at the hospital at 6:30 a.m he started the surgery at 8a.m the anesthesiologist gave her a sedative to make her sleepy then they rolled her away in a lettle red wagon, she looked so tiny riding in the wagon down a great big hallway. she was very brave and didn't even cry! once they got her on the operating table they gave her gas to put her out then they gave her an I.V Dr. Hirsche took skin from her left thigh to graft onto her shoulder and upper arm. the surgery lasted 80 minutes she was pretty groggy when she came out of recovery we stayed there in the same day surgery until 12:30 when we were able to take her home she slept a lot.we gave her a lot of tylenol with codine but we found that the itching from the staples was worse than the pain they staple the skin graft to her then they staple a thin piece of foam around the graft we saw the Dr. a week later and he took all the staples out instead of just the ones on the foam and this really helped with the itching but here it is, june 27th and we still give her benadryl 3-5 times a day. we are kind of getting back into a routine again, she's still spoiled and gets almost anything she wants. i dont know how she can watch barney for hours on end each day but she just loves him the rest of us just have to live with it because she throws a fit if she cant watch barney or "honkas" (pochahontas) mckayla is healing very well the skin is very thin and bleeds easily if rubbed or bumped too hard, so she is bandaged up and we change the bandages once a day when she has healed more they will fit her for a special vest that will put pressure on the surgery site to help the scar tissue be flat and not form ridges."

aaawwww the end.

thats just one surgery story though.

i got surgery on the same shoulder september 9th because the scar bands had a lot of built up pressure over all the years. Dr. Bishop made Z-pasty incisions. annndd all is well...except when i get close to voldemort my scar hurts real bad thats all.
