i have ALWAYS hated going to the dentist. even if it is just to have my teeth cleaned! maybe its the smell, or the sound of their drills or sharp tools scraping against your teeth, or maybe its the way they always talk to you like you are 5. well actually its ALL of those things..and much more. but today i had to go get my teeth cleaned...and the days leading up to today were filled with fear...and tears...and lots of complaining, and excuses to not go. but nonetheless i had to go...there was no way out of it. when i pulled up in the parking lot my eyes swelled up and i got a lump in my throat...after a few minutes i composed my 18 year old self and went inside. i waited forrrreevvveerrrrr then they called me back.
i followed a lady to a room and she told me to take a seat and that she would be right back to clean my teeth. we all know what those dentist chairs look like correct? well...this room was way too small for everything they had in there! the computer, x-ray machine, the chair the dentist sits on, the sink area, and the chair for the clients. seriously there was no room! so...i kinda straddled the back of the chair and ended up putting my hands on the end of the chair where your feet are supposed to go then i shimmied my legs up the sides of the chair and ended up looking like a sitting dog. so i tried to get my feet in front of me but i ended up kicking the tray where all the tools are and a few of those fell...but im still in this awkward position...so after a few seconds of what could have been yoga i managed to find my self in the proper position! i picked up the tools and sat up...and hit my head on the light thats above you...great. now that i was at least sitting in a normal position i had a chance to laugh at myself cause that was ridiculous. then the lady comes back to clean my teeth...with the tools i had just dropped on the floor...i was going to tell her but before i knew it she had her hands down my throat! while of course she is trying to talk to me. i just stopped caring about the dirty tools right there and started panicking about what was to come.
she brushed my teeth...and i cringed at the sound, but i kept giving myself mini pep talks about "how good i was doing" then she brought out that metal scraper thing and basically tried to floss my teeth with it...now here is where i turn about 6 years old...i squirmed in the chair, i turned my head the other way, i whimpered, i even shed tears, i closed my mouth, i told her to stop and that she is hurting me....all the while the tone of her voice says "i want to stab your eyes out with this tool! your 18 grow up!" then she said "im just going to blow some cold air on your teeth" cold air? im thinking, what for? next thing i know i have been sprayed in the face with water. no joke! she apologized saying she had mixed up the tools but i know she was seeking revenge. i definitely felt like a dog being punished with a spray bottle for barking. then the dentist comes in and pokes around for like seriously 10 seconds...he knows exactly how i behave at the dentist office so he tries to make it as quick and painless as possible because i WILL bite. were done before i know it and they are handing me my bag with a new toothbrush and all that good stuff. i was SURE that i had at least 234 cavities...minimum! i always have cavities...i swear and getting those taken care of is EVEN WORSE! if you think i behave badly getting my teeth cleaned you dont even want to know how i am when im getting a cavity filled. so my eyes tear up again...and i ask him when i would have to come back but he says i had NO CAVITIES! and i would just have to come back in 6 months! then i cried happy tears and went home and ate chicken nuggets!
the end.
you should tell your other dentist story... hehehe :)
